Bar News…

May 21, 2007

This week the Eau Claire City Council will be voting to renew the liquor licenses. As a result, there was a complete list of all permits in the City Council packet. Now I have a list and have actually tracked down a couple of places on my map that I had not found.

In addition, I determined that Chester’s is not in the City Limits! It is technically in the Town of Washington. The borders look as bad as any gerrymandered political political boundaries.

Just Below/Sea Horse Inn, She-Nanigans, Shang Hai Bistro

May 21, 2007

This set of visits was solo. I miss my drinking partner, though.

The signs on the outside of the building had me thinking that this was a Karate studio. (At 45 mph, Karoke could be Karate, and the seahorses looked like kicking figures. The bar has a very nautical theme, a nice dining room and lower level with patio for parties/weddings. The bartender/manager also lives on the lower level. Sheila is really nice, they have pretty good Long Islands, too.

I went to She-Nanigans since they were hosting an event for my morning radio station, and I thought it would be neat to meet the morning hosts in person. They were both very nice. The event was sponsored by Bud Light, so needless to say, that is what I drank after the initial Long Island.

Saturday I had drinks with a work friend (he works for my place of employment as a contractor, not as a staff member). We went to Shang Hai Bistro. As it sounds, it is a Japanese food place. He drank sake, I stayed with Long Islands….they do not have Leine’s. There is a terrace out back which has a pretty decent view. Saturday there was jazz starting at about 6:30 pm which was fun.

The Joynt, revisited

May 18, 2007

No, I did not go back. What I have found is a graphic of the coaster (pasted here), and a link to an article about The Joynt and Water Street.

My one complaint about the site is that from the Fish Fry page, you can only find Eau Claire in the southern portion. Now, I may be new, but even I know that Eau Claire belongs in the Northern section!

How many?

May 4, 2007

I have been misleading people. I have been saying that I have been to “only” fifty bars, but I just did the count…..it is fifty five (55)! Four of those were in Altoona, so I am at 50 of the 86 bars in town (two of which are still under construction…).

More to follow!

VFW (Starr Ave)

May 4, 2007

This bar has the best view of any bar in Eau Claire. The bar is nice/ok. There is a covered/screened patio which looks like many people’s homes (odd stuff stored in corners), and a patio. It overlooks an area of the Chippewa River called “the Dells.” The bar sits on top of a bluff, so with the leaves just coming out, we had a great view of the river. Like with many clubs, the drinks were well priced (i.e. cheap).
